Ganeshotsav is a festival without which my childhood can't be completed. Ganesh idol brings home on Ganesh Chaturthi with chanting of Ganapati Bappa Morya. Everyday morning and evening we do Ganesh pooja which includes diferent Artis of different Gods and Godess. Everyday we offer different prasad to Ganapati bappa. Ganestostav celebrates upto 11 days and ends on Anant chaturdashi.

Modak is all time favorite prasad for Ganapati. Fried Modak is made up with sweet mixture filled in wheat or refined wheat flour. And then fried in deep frying pan. It tastes delicious and very yummy.

Ingredients for Fried Modak


 ½ cup refined wheat flour
 ½ cup dry grated coconut
 ¼ cup Sugar
 1 tbsp Additional sugar
 ¼ cup condensed milk (khava)
 ¼ cup milk
 ½ tbsp poppy seeds (khaskhas)
 salt, Buffalo ghee,
 cardamom powder & oil

How to make Fried Modak


Making dough for modak recipe
  1. Take refine wheat flour with salt as per taste in mixing bowl.
  2. Then pour hot ghee in flour
  3. Use buffalo ghee here. Cow ghee will give yellowish colour to modaks.
  4. Now, mix it well.
  5. Add milk step by step while mixing flour simultaneously.
  6. Milk gives nice white colour to our modak
  7. Make a soft dough while mixing flour.
  8. Now, take a small amount of ghee on one hand.
  9. And mix it thoroughly on dough.
  10. Cover dough with wet cloth.
Making sweet mixture for madak recipe
  1. Take very small amount of ghee in deep frying pan.
  2. Add poppy seeds (khaskhas) in it. And saute it on low flame till we get savoury smell out of it.
  3. Now, pour grated dry coconut and saute for some time.
  4. Add Condensed milk (khava) in mixture and saute till it melt completely.
  5. Pour sugar in pan and saute till sugar get completely blended.
  6. After blending of sugar our mixture will get wet.
  7. Switch off gas and Sprinkle cardamom powder on mixture and mix it well.
Making poori and modak
  1. Remove small portion from dough.
  2. And make small ball from it.
  3. Now, take that small ball and roll out poori by continuously moving circular.
  4. Our dough is very soft, so We need not to add flour or oil.
  5. Add 1 ½ regular spoon sweet mixture on poori.
  6. Now, use pointer finger, middle finger and thumb to give shape to modak as seen in picture.
  7. You can make shape as many as you want or you can.
  8. Now, slowly close opening of modak while moving it circular motion with bottom hand.
  9. Seal the top of modak completely and give point shape to it.
  10. Roll the modak in two hand to give good circular shape to it.

  1. Take sufficient oil in deep frying pan.
  2. Do not heat oil too much.
  3. Add modak in hot oil.
  4. Fry on low flame for 5-10 minutes of both sides of modak.
  5. Remove fried modak from oil and keep aside.
